SIMT — PRESS FACT SHEET
=======================
Updated: June 2026

WHAT IT IS
----------
SIMT is a free, offline-first spatial toolkit for Android and Wear OS. One app
combines a precision compass, target planning, GPS-denied tracking, local-network
location sharing, AR measurement, and offline astronomy — and is built to keep
working where ordinary map apps stop: underground, offshore, in packed venues,
and far from any tower. Everything core runs on the device, and your data stays
on it by default.

The name comes from the Arabic word samt (سَمْت), meaning "direction" — the same
root that gives English the words azimuth, zenith, and nadir.

KEY FEATURES
------------
- Compass: precision dial with true/magnetic north and your targets as a live
  ring around you; Sun/Moon calibration.
- Targets & planning: save from map, coordinates, photo, QR code, or notes, plus
1,100+ built-in landmarks; online and fully offline maps.
- Track+ (GPS-denied): fuses pedestrian dead-reckoning, visual-inertial motion,
the barometer, and magnetic/Wi-Fi fingerprints to recover your position
  underground and indoors.
- Link+ (no internet): live device-to-device location sharing over local Wi-Fi
or Wi-Fi Direct, started with an NFC tap and secured with mutual TLS.
- Ray+, Measure & Plumb Bob: AR distance/area measurement, a calibrated
on-screen ruler, and a digital leveling tool.
- Iris (no ARCore): augmented-reality target overlay on the live camera using
pure sensor-and-lens math; light on battery, works offline, runs on low-end
phones, and can point at satellites and planets.
- Sky & Orrery: planets, Moon phases, eclipses, deep-sky targets, and satellites
from orbital data, plus a time-traveling Orrery and Qibla direction — all
  computed on-device.
- Raw GNSS engine: multi-constellation raw-measurement processing (GPS, GLONASS,
Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS, NavIC, SBAS) with atmospheric corrections and optional
  NTRIP RTK/PPP for survey-grade fixes.
- Wear OS & Automations: wrist navigation with synced targets; automations
capture targets on a schedule, interval, altitude change, or activity.
- Seven experience roles (Explorer, Hiker, Traveler, Photographer, Astronomer,
Builder, Gamer) and a built-in location guessing game, GeoQuest.

WHY IT'S NEWSWORTHY (ANGLES)
----------------------------
1. The survey instrument hiding in a phone — SIMT reads raw satellite data most
apps never touch and reaches centimeter-class RTK accuracy. iOS doesn't expose
this data, so it only exists on Android.
2. Find your car when GPS dies — Track+ keeps a breadcrumb trail through
multi-level garages with no signal and no map of the building.
3. Premium AR on phones that "can't" do AR — Iris does augmented reality with no
ARCore, offline, even on satellites and planets.
4. When the network collapses, it keeps your group together — Link+ shares
position device-to-device with no tower, no roaming, no cloud (a natural fit
for crowded venues and the 2026 World Cup).
5. Time-travel the solar system, offline — the Orrery flies planets +/-100 years
at up to 500,000x speed and tracks the ISS, all on-device.
6. The 1,000-year-old Arabic word in your compass — azimuth, zenith, and nadir
all descend from samt; SIMT is named for it.

BOILERPLATE
-----------
SIMT is a free, offline-first spatial toolkit for Android and Wear OS that
combines a precision compass, target planning, GPS-denied tracking,
local-network location sharing, AR measurement, and offline astronomy in a
single privacy-first app. Designed to stay useful where ordinary map apps stop —
underground, offshore, in crowded venues, and under open sky — SIMT computes on
the device and keeps your data on it by default. Learn more at simt.app.

ABOUT THE MAKER
---------------
SIMT is designed and built by Said Elimam, an independent Paris-based engineer,
filmmaker, and music composer. That blend of disciplines is why SIMT pairs
precise, offline-first engineering with an interface built to feel calm,
considered, and genuinely useful in the field.

QUOTES (attributable to Said Elimam, creator of SIMT)
-----------------------------------------------------
"Most apps assume the network will always be there. SIMT assumes it won't — and
works anyway."

"A direction is not a thing — you cannot put the zenith in a box — and yet our
whole civilisation of maps, ships, satellites, and smartphones rests on our
ability to name and measure it."

"The winning move underground isn't a perfect live location. It's keeping enough
context to recover the route you already made."
